CineStill has launched the CS Negative+ Convert Tools featuring SpectraCOLOR™ — an Adobe Lr/Ps plugin designed for film scan inversion. The CS Negative+ technology is based on the spectral sensitometric curves typical of traditional RA-4 darkroom prints and motion picture prints. The best part is that these plugins are available for free: cinestillfilm.com/products…

“The outcome includes more precise colors, enhanced contrast, and a closer resemblance to the original negative, all while minimizing the need for complicated color corrections during post-processing.”

These Adobe plugins represent the next evolution of CineStill’s film inversion product, which was previously accessible on Instagram through Meta’s Spark AR platform (which Meta has since discontinued).

In a blog post at cinestillfilm.com/blogs/ne…, CineStill suggests utilizing CS-LITE, a backlight suited for digital camera setups, which is specifically calibrated for film scanning.

I had the opportunity to test the plugins shortly before publication using Sony a7iii scans of my Mamiya RZ67 film. The process involves first selecting one of the “START” (CS Negative+ Convert) presets, followed by one or more of the “PROCESS” (CS Negative+ Tools) presets, and modifying the settings to adjust variables such as density and tint.
