Jollylook is producing budget-friendly mechanical instant film backs compatible with the Mamiya RB67, RZ67, and other medium format cameras. Last month, the company revealed the completion of their hand-crankable DIY instant film development units featuring an Instax Wide back, and now they are focusing on adapting this technology for medium format film cameras.
One appealing aspect of film cameras is that many operate without batteries and lack electronic components. In contrast, most instant film cameras do contain a motorized film ejection system. Since peel-apart film is quite scarce, Jollylook's system presents one of the limited options for instant-battery-free photography.
The design of Jollylook’s camera (e.g., analog.cafe/r/film-photogr…) incorporates complex cardboard and plywood assembly, which may not consistently yield dependable results. Nevertheless, the plastic and metal film rollers and frames work effectively in DIY projects (such as analog.cafe/r/building-the…). We will soon discover how this technology performs for medium format cameras, and if it proves successful, it could provide an economical method to quickly transform your medium format camera into an instant film camera.

"This emulsion embodies the essence of our film project: to develop film materials free from historical constraints, third-party patent issues, or reliance on manufacturers. It has been constructed from scratch — fueled by creativity and input from users. We plan to launch our prototype assembly line in June 2025, with production of the V3 emulsion to commence shortly after." —… #editorial.

First and foremost, I want to emphasize that support is accessible everywhere; no matter how bleak your surroundings may seem, you are never alone! Photography has always been a source of inspiration for me. This is a story of how photography, particularly film photography, guided me on my journey.
