Film Notes and Metadata Accompanied by Frames

The difficulty of recalling specifics. Traditional film cameras, loved for their tactile feel and image quality, do not provide the digital ease of metadata recording. Photographers often turn to notebooks or their memory to remember important details like aperture, shutter speed, or film type used for a shot. However, this approach can lead to mistakes or forgotten information.

Frames. Frames is an individual venture created from a passion for film photography and careful documentation. The apps are free (with optional paid upgrades), free of advertisements, and prioritize your privacy. As a photographer, I developed Frames to provide a smooth and user-friendly solution for recording vital shooting information. Here’s what I intended for it to accomplish:

Effortlessly document detailed information such as frame numbers, focal lengths, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, aperture, flash settings, camera, lens, film stock, dates, times, and geolocations. Attach visual references directly to each frame to enhance context and understanding. Organize your complete film library easily with customizable folders and advanced search features, making every session easily accessible.

An app for Mac and iPhone. Frames is accessible on both iPhone and Mac platforms. The iPhone app is designed for easy data entry during shoots, while the Mac app helps incorporate the recorded metadata into scanned images, simplifying the post-processing stage.

Metadata Integration. After developing, adding metadata to digital scans can be tedious. Frames makes this easier with Metadata Integration, allowing you to combine the recorded information from your Frames apps directly into the JPEG file.

Customized app design. I created Frames to ensure it is user-friendly for film photography enthusiasts like me. Its interface adapts to various lens specifications, supporting full, half, or third aperture clicks. It includes a pre-loaded list of over 200 film stocks, along with the option to add custom entries for faster input. The app complies with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Privacy and accessibility. Frames does not gather personal information. The application is free to download, with optional in-app purchases for more features on the Mac version. You can find Frames on the App Store and the Mac App Store.
