ORWO Net AG has declared insolvency, but ORWO film production seems to remain unaffected. The ORWO brand has experienced a turbulent past, marked by bankruptcies, corporate divisions, missteps, and numerous failed ventures. Last week, ORWO Net AG fell into insolvency.
ORWO Net AG is the registered owner of the "ORWO" name in Germany. It deals in printed materials and runs a large photographic laboratory, but it does not produce film. The ORWO-branded film is sourced from FilmoTec GmbH, which is co-owned with InovisCoat, a company that produces film components for brands like Polaroid B.V., Adox, Bergger, and Lomography.
Although FilmoTec has faced some challenges recently, it operates as a separate entity and does not appear to be impacted by ORWO Net's financial issues.
This article was prompted by the news about ORWO Net AG’s insolvency, which initially puzzled me until I researched the company’s background. It's unfortunate to witness yet another business go under, but I'm relieved that the film production aspect is still intact.
I have reached out to ORWO directly and will update this article if there are any developments.
On a related note, “our” ORWO recently hinted at an upcoming release of their new ISO 200 color film.
The ORWO brand has experienced a rocky journey, marked by bankruptcies, corporate divisions, missteps, and countless unsuccessful ventures. Most recently, ORWO Net AG has entered insolvency. #editorial.
