Film photography is now acknowledged as a cultural heritage in Germany and is working towards a UNESCO listing. Silvergrain Classics, a German magazine focused on English-language film photography, has shared this update on their blog: silvergrainclassics.com/en….
“Analog photography has officially been included in the State Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of North Rhine-Westphalia. This development enables the state to put forward analog photography for consideration at the federal level in Germany.”
This nomination and its progression could signify various positive outcomes for analog photography, such as increased recognition and potentially more efforts and investments from German and European governments to support and promote this medium.
I believe that film holds equal significance to books and paintings. Hopefully, governments will concur, as maintaining this medium at its current level requires substantial financial resources, and it would be regrettable to see it diminish in the event of an economic downturn.
