Currently, two new film cameras are under development in Japan and China. This week has been thrilling for film photographers, highlighted by the introduction of two new Kodak films and Lomography's first ISO 200 colour-negative 35mm film. However, the excitement isn't over yet, as Leica Rumours has just released leaked images showcasing Light Lens Lab's advancements on their Barnack-inspired replica film camera, along with a handmade "finest mechanical 35mm film camera" being crafted by a Japanese manufacturer (as shown in the images).
Light Lens Lab, a Chinese company, is nearing the launch of a completely new black-and-white film (check out their latest update: analog.cafe/comments/b7gh). Their aspirations extend beyond still camera films; they have shown interest in producing reels for motion picture studios and are now reportedly developing a Leica clone. For photographs, see the Leica Rumours post: leicarumors.com/2025/10/03…
Suzuki Handmade Camera Factory is another small camera producer, new to me, that is developing an entirely new mechanically machined metal camera. Their progress is documented on their website, handmadecamera.com, and on Instagram at instagram.com/suzuki_handm….
While both initiatives are still quite a way from completion, they are certainly worth keeping an eye on.
