Cameradactyl is offering art sales in exchange for large RA-4 paper cartridge blueprints, camera backs, and direct positive processor designs. Recently, Ethan Moses from Cameradactyl released a video showcasing his invention, a novel “film” format that utilizes roll RA-4 paper to create approximately 100 4x5 exposures in a sizable daylight canister. These rolls can be utilized in Ethan’s large TLR-like camera or modified for use as a back on 4x5 cameras. However, capturing images in this large format is only part of the process; the other involves developing the thick roll of paper. This is why Ethan has also created a conveyor-like machine that moves the entire roll through chemicals to achieve a direct positive. Unlike his other cameras, Ethan does not intend to sell these machines. Instead, he is suggesting to trade sales of his photography (prints) for the open-source release of the entire project, which will include the canisters, camera backs, and film processor. Once Ethan reaches $300,000 in art sales, all related files will be freely available, with a gradual release as sales progress. It's an interesting offer for an impressive project. I happen to have a roll of RA-4 paper in my closet and I would love to use it with a 4x5 camera.
